This thing called 'Addiction' is why your loved one often does not see any issue with their alcohol or drug use - the belief for them is: “my alcohol or drug use is not a problem—I don’t need help.” When they’re in this mindset, any push to get them into getting help can unintentionally drive your deeply valued relationship with your loved one further apart, often creating conflict, abuse, or total withdrawal from you.

Let’s begin by rethinking the idea of “enabling.” Remember, no matter what you do or don’t do, your loved one will ultimately make their own choices. You’re not in control of their actions—so let go of the guilt and the inner conflict that can weigh you down.
